'Fibres and Flora'
The pieces were produced for a final year project, in response to MIX Magazine’s Autumn Winter 2017/18 trend ‘Grace’. This trend story was driven by the natural world, a return to craft and the Scottish Highlands.
I began the project by searching for and collecting small natural objects that interested me with their shape, texture and colour. To highlight these interesting elements and bring a craft element to the pieces, I stitched into them with simple embroidery thread. As I found more objects, I experimented further with the concept of combining textile fibres and natural objects, through felting and flocking.
Imagining them as specimens found by a dog walker in the Highlands, as a new species of fungi that was claiming fallen pieces of nature and growing threads and textile fibres from inside them.
